Berea College Sail Past Wesleyan Wolves
The Berea College Mountaineers women’s basketball team blew through the Wesleyan Wolves, 83-32 on February 1st.
Berea’s defense was active and aggressive early on, forcing 19 Wesleyan turnovers just in the first half alone.
Mountaineer Adriana Williams led her team at the second half with three steals and 8 points, scoring 6 of the team’s first 12 points. She finished with 12 points. Wesleyan’s Alexis Russel led her team with 11 points, and seven rebounds. She remained a game leader till the end, finishing with the game-high 13 points and 10 rebounds.
While the Wolves fought hard the first few minutes, they began to pull away after an 11-0 run extended Berea’s lead to 16. The gap would only continue to rise as Berea would end the second half 43-22.
Berea crushed any hope for Wesleyan out of the half, scoring six quick points to widen the gap to 35 points less than a minute in. The Berea didn’t stop there, the reserves went in the third quarter, with freshman Savannah Fallis hitting two threes ending the quarter off in dramatic fashion. She finished with a career-high 12 points.
The Lady Mountaineers’ scoring load was well-balanced as three players finished in double-figures and 13 of 14 players put points on the board. Savannah Fallis and Adriana Williams led Berea’s attack with 12, Bri Lanham followed with 10, Kelsey Tippitt’s tossed in 9, Kiley Barnard & Jamie Roberts each chipped in 8.
They cruised to finish line by a final score of 83-32. Berea had 34 points from the paint, 42 points from Wesleyan’s turnovers, and the bench scored 44 points.
After the game, Coach McClain stated, “We jumped on them fast. We kept our energy high throughout both halves and being able to get reserves some extra-playing time helps get the whole team prepared for the big conference games coming up. We hope the intensity we came out with carries over tomorrow whenever we play Anges Scott.”
Next, Berea prepares for a road game to clash with No. 6 Agnes Scott on Friday Feb. 2. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
