Mountaineers Upended by Covenant
Berea Mountaineers men soccer team were outlasted 6-2 by Covenant College. This was uphill battle for the Mountaineers as they got down early and never really recovered. They did not go down with out fight. They showed toughness and a strong will, but Covenant was too good to overcome.
In the first half the Mountaineers got down early has Covenant managed to score twice in the first 12 minutes of the game. The pressure stayed on Berea although the first half, as it seemed Covenant could do about anything they wanted to as they just dominated the game throughout the first half. The pressure kept going as Covenant scored again to make it 3-0 on the 33th minute of the game. Berea managed to keep 3-0, but it was a battle to keep it 3-0.
The start of the second half was no better for Berea, as Covenant made it a quick 4-0 not even a minute into the second half. Things started to look bleak for the Mountaineers as it could have gotten even worse. Instead, they battle hard, and made the score 4-2 by goals from Junior Gyamfi, and Issac Mendoza. The goals came in the 50th and 56th minute of the game. Berea was looking for a major comeback, but Covenant was just to much to handle. As, Covenant would goals in the 65th and 86th minute to make the final score 6-2.
This game dropped the Mountaineers to (2-4) on the season, and (0-2) in conference. The Mountaineers are hoping more of the early season success as they take on Huntingdon at home this weekend. Let's see if the Mountaineers can back on the winning side of the things this weekend!
