SEC. Best Conference in Basketball?
The SEC has been by far one of the best conferences in college basketball this. Everyone knew that Kentucky, Texas A&M, Florida, and Alabama was going to be stout this year. Those 4 have been as pretty much as advertised with big wins over big teams, and more than likely will be in the tourney, but with the resurgence of Auburn, Tennessee, and Missouri. The SEC has a chance to put 7 teams in the tourney and maybe more, if Georgia, Mississippi state, and Arkansas have a strong finish to the year . This has been a surprise for a lot of people.
This has been the deepest the SEC has every been. No game is know a guarantee as some use to be a couple years ago. For example, Vanderbilt is dead last in the SEC, and last Tuesday Vandy took Kentucky to the wire at Rupp Arena, and if the Dores knew how to finish it would been a victory for Vandy. This can just give you idea of how deep the conference is.
Also, the BIG 12/SEC challenge gave insight have how deep and good the league was. The SEC actually won the challenge for the first time. It was 6-4 with SEC winning the last three to close it. It was not like they were playing cupcake teams in the BIG 12, but the premier teams in the conference. Kentucky won at West Virginia, Tennessee and Florida spanked Baylor and Iowa State. Alabama controlling Oklahoma and Trae Young, and Arkansas and Vanderbilt winning against Oklahoma state and TCU just shows how good this conference is.
The SEC has had no more than 6 in the NCAA tournament, and as of right they are going to blow by that. Also to go with that Auburn and Tennessee could be fighting for a number 1 seed or 2 seed for the tourney. ESPN BPI gave Tennessee the highest chance to get the final one seed at 24% and Auburn coming in at third with 13%. If one of either Auburn or Tennessee could get the one seed would propel the conference even higher. It would be the first time in a long time that it would not be Florida or Kentucky getting the one seed. It just shows the depth the SEC has.
The SEC at the end could be the best conference in all of basketball at the in the end of the year competing against the ACC and BIG 12. Do not expect for this to be like a once every 10 years thing. The coaches in the SEC are not going anywhere anytime soon, recruiting for the SEC is at high, and over looking the league their is a lot of youth in it. Expect the SEC battling for the best conference in basketball for a long time to come.
