NBA Celebrity All-star Game: Quavo's Moment

This past weekend we all enjoyed our annual NBA All-star games. We watched our rookies of Team USA get swept by the World team, we watched Donovan Mitchell pay tribute to one of the best, Vince Carter and win the 2018 Slam Dunk contest. Nevertheless, this was an action packed weekend like any all-star weekend; but my personal favorite year round is the Celebrity All-Star game. With familiar rosters and iconic coaches, where could you go wrong with following the All-Star game?

For starters, the All-star teams were the Clippers and the Lakers. The Lakers, coached by Rachel Nichols, an ESPN host, Tracy McGrady (one of basketball’s GOATs), and Michael B. Jordan, from several movies including, Black Panther, had their hands full with other celebrities including Nick Cannon, Caleb McLaughlin from the Netflix Original, Stranger Things, Candace Parker, and Canada’s favorite, Justin Bieber (a previous MVP of the 2011 all-star games).

Bieber counted as a later addition to the roster, along with Quavo, a member of the rap group, Migos for the Clippers.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have the LA Clippers. Coached by Katie Nolan, Paul Pierce (The Truth), and rapper/actor Common, who has had his basketball experience in films like Just Wright. Their roster included already mentioned, Quavo, Dascha Polanco, an inmate from Netflix’s original, Orange Is the New Black, Miles Brown, from TV show, Black-ish, and Andre De Grasse, a bronze and silver medal earner during the 2016 Olympics.

Going into the game, I had my sights on the Lakers, because admittedly, I am a Bieber fan. However, this year was nothing like 2011. Justin’s defense was definitely off throughout the whole game. It could be due to his humbleness when it came to guarding 4-foot Miles Brown, the fact that he is getting older, or simply because his game is gone. But, he had social media on his side when it came to bringing back the nostalgia of “Baby” singing Biebs, despite the fact he had on the opposing team’s color shorts.

However, Bieber could not shade Quavo’s shine. Quavo played for 36 minutes and helped the home team out with his three assists with Armstrong right behind him. By the looks of it Quavo was untouchable, by Bieber, Candace Parker, or even Nate Robinson. He proved to be "the one" while giving the game all he had.

The score at the end of the game was Lakers 66 and Clippers 75. Rachel DeMita contributed the most points put up by the Lakers with 17 and Nate Robinson hit 14. Bieber ends the game with four points. Quavo puts the Clippers in for the dub as he puts up 19 points and gained MVP of the game. Despite that most of the players were actors and even retired basketball players, they all have skills on and off the court and all banded together for a great cause, donating to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Due to Quavo’s outstanding performance in his first all-star game, should we expect to see more Migos added to the roster of future all-star games?
