How Will the FBI Probe Affect College Basketball?
With the FBI releasing information Friday about the certain teams giving out, or players receiving improper benefits, it was astonishing to see. Three dozen major division 1 programs were on the list, and it did include about all of the blue bloods in college basketball. With Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky on list, and other major programs on list gave out the idea that this could change college basketball.
The first thing that will be mostly affected is recruiting for this schools. You may not see the affects on some of them, but could be seen in the recent future. One team though is already facing the consequences after the FBI releasing on Friday, and that team is Arizona. Sean Miller in a span of 24 hours after releasing was not going to coach that Saturday night against Oregon. Most likely he will probably never coach, just like Rick Pitino. He was caught on FBI wiretap discussing 100k payment to Deandre Ayton. After all of this, their prized recruit Shareef O'Neil decommitted from Arizona in less than 24 hours. Just shows the power this releasing has behind it.
Along with Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky on the list, other power houses were on the list including Michigan State, Xavier, Texas, Kansas, and many others on the list. With schools like on the line of being in major trouble could change college basketball. Imagine a Duke or a Kansas team not competing or winning like they use too, and barely reaching or not even making the NCAA tournament. That would shock college basketball, and the people watching all over. If that really happens it makes you wonder who could or would step and replace them as a power house every year.
Lastly, certain players were included on the list some in the NBA, and some still in college. Like Dennis Smith Jr and Isaiah Whitehead who are in the NBA, and others like Wendell Carter and Collin Sexton who are still in college. Also, you can superstar Miles Bridges to the list also. If something happens before the NCAA tournament, and these players can not play; how is that going to affect the outcome of the tourney. You know Collin Sexton is really the only player that can carry them, Miles Bridges is the leader of MSU, and Wendell Carter is about been Duke's best big men. Even know nothing has come down from the NCAA itself, but you have to get the idea that some of these punishments are going to be severe.
