A Surprising Final Four
It's March, which means the madness will continue in the men's 2018 basketball tournament. With eight teams competing, only four of them were able to escape to make it to the final four in San Antonio. The question at this point just comes to who wants the title more.
It may not be a surprise that Villinova has made their way to the final four this weekend. The wildcats dominated Texas Tech making it look easy to stamp their ticket to get them into the final four. Although Nova had a slow start in the first 7 minutes of the game, they quickly picked up the lead and never lost it again. Villanova will make their way to their sixth final four.
A game that was a toss up between the two team was Duke and Kansas. The blue devils lead the jay hawks thought the entire game until the final seconds. Kansas was able to tie the game at 72 when Duke's only senior, Grayson Allen, had the chance to take the last shot and missed. The game went into overtime and it was a constant back and forth. I almost thought that Duke might be able to pull away with the win... until Kansas went on a run. The jay hawks took down Duke 85-81 to meet Villanova in the final four.
Next on the list to advance to the final four was the match up between Michigan and Florida St. Let's just state that Michigan had this game under their sleeve the entire time. Sure, Florida St. was able to get up on the Wolverines every now and then, but that quickly stopped after the last minute in the first half. Although FSU was about to beat Michigan three point percentage and rebounds, they also were able to beat their turnover numbers. That was ultimately Florida St. problem in this game. Michigan was able to pull away and defeat Florida St. 58-54.
Finally, the Cinderella story half the nation is following... Kansas St. versus Loyola-Chicago. It may be safe to say that Loyola-Chicago may be the team that majority of America wants to see win just because they are the underdog team. The Ramblers took on the Wildcats and ran. Loyola-Chicago lead Kansas St. in three point percentage, rebounds, and field goal percentage. Although they also lead by almost tripling the amount of turnovers, they were able to make up for it. Loyola-Chicago is going to make their way to the final four to meet with Michigan and in the hopes to pull off a win to make it to the championship and face either Villanova or Kansas.
