Who should be the NBA Rookie of the Year
With the playoffs in full swing, the discussions of the NBA rewards will keep popping up more and more in the next couple weeks, but one discussions has already created some tension. Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz, and Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers have had some tensions rise of the last week or so. The two have already come out publicly saying they should win it. Who should win? Lets find out.
Both Donovan Mitchell and Ben Simmons have excelled brilliantly throughout the NBA season, and the start of the playoffs. This is making the decision quite tough who deserve it. We have Ben Simmons who has been part that everyone thought he would be since he was drafted first overall in the NBA draft, and on the other we have Donovan Mitchell. Who has come more of a surprise this year. Being the 13th overall pick in last year draft, no one really thought he would make this type of an impact. Both have intriguing cases of should be the favorite for rookie of the year.
Ben Simmons has been a machine this year for the 76ers. While averaging 15.8pts 08.1reb, and 8.2 assist a game, he has also acquired 11 triple doubles this season, and already having one in the playoffs. Ben Simmons has been everyone thought he would be, which as helped his case for rookie of the year, but there still question if he should or not. First is, he has had a great cast around him. With the likes of Embiid, JJ Reddick, and the return of Markelle Fultz. Not like he has had to carry this team. Another factor is, he plays in the east. Playing in the east versus playing in the west not even close in. The east has been the lack luster one either conference. Even with that, Ben Simmons has a great case for Rookie of the year.
Donovan Mitchell has blasted on the scene this year, and is still leaving marks as he goes. As a 13th overall pick, not many had him having one of the best chances to win rookie of the year. Mitchell averaged 20.5 pts 3.7 assist, and 3.7 rebounds a game. He may not have the amount of triples doubles of Simmons, but the man has carried this team for the most part of the season. Lets face it, if the Jazz does not have Mitchell on their team. They are not even close to what they are now. The Jazz have with a good cast too with Gobert, and Ingles, but nothing like the 76ers do. One side that does hurt Mitchell some is, he can disappear at times throughout the game. That can be a big difference in the voting this year.
All in all, the race to the NBA rookie if the year is going to be exciting one. With Simmons, and Mitchell both playing brilliantly throughout the playoffs, the award is still up in the air to grab. Who is going to win it? Follow the NBA the next of weeks to find out.
